School's over for my kids and with today being the first Monday of the break, it's evident that they're bored already! Around 11am, my youngest child asked me if he can go to school. LOL
I have them reading daily, as part of the Summer reading program. I bought one of those small kiddie pools for them to race their toy boats in and I still find them playing with water in the sink. I can't even be upset with them, because I promised to be more adventurous. I'm trying to keep them active and not dependent on technology, but gosh I didn't realize how much of my own energy that'll take. I refuse to let them play outside, unless I'm outside watching them. So, for parents like me trying to avoid Summer blues, here are some ideas for things to do during the Summer. Mostly free, or low cost:
If you're on the Treasure Coast, check out my website, www.supportstluciecounty.com. Outside the Treasure Coast? I'm sure similar deals can be found in your area.
Most movie theaters offer a FREE or low cost Summer Movie Series. PG or PG-13 movies early in the day.
Summer reading programs at local libraries are not as dull as they sound. Many events include music, hands on activities, magic shows, animals, science and much more!
Of course, swimming in your own pool is fun. But, it's also fun to visit a local pool or fountains with friends. Free or a few bucks. It doesn't really take much for kids to have a great time, but at the fountains, I usually find myself having a much needed conversation with an adult! I may even run though the water, too!
Kids Bowl Free bowling event at local bowling alleys. If you decide to do this, please enter my email address as the person who referred you: "firstname.lastname@example.org" (thanks!)
Local libraries, museums and aquariums tend to host special events during the Summer.
Be sure to check out local sports fields as well. Many host "Kids Day", where kids receive free admission and special treatment!
