Today I decided to buy my kids alarm clocks. This wasn't a 'teach my children responsibility' purchase, it was more of a 'Let mommy sleep until 9am on the weekend PLEASE', kind of buy!
My husband could be awake, in the living room watching TV and the kids won't think to ask him to make them a bowl of cereal or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich...nothing! But, by 7am, I could sense their little hands getting ready to tap me and say, "mommy, I'm starving!" It never fails, for us a usual Saturday morning involves me looking to the other side of the bed to see that my husband is already up and about and I scream to the living room saying, "OLIVER ARE YOU SERIOUS?, GET THEM SOMETHING TO EAT!GEEZ." I then wait about two minutes and if I don't hear him tell the boys to let me sleep I know it's time for me to get up. When he is not a team player, he's not going to have a good night, lol!
I remember back when I could sleep through anything. A decade ago I slept so sound, a marching band could perform in my bedroom and I would be none the wiser. So, I bought two simple alarm clocks and explained my reason to the kids. I showed them how it works, had them practice turning the alarm off once it goes off and begged them not to ask me for anything until 9am. But, they can bother Daddy anytime (new Saturday morning rule!)!
Unfortunately, my younger son's clock went off at 3am. Thankfully, I didn't hear it, hubby took care of it and was quick to let me know when I woke up. This new clock idea worked so well (for me) I didn't actually see daylight until after 11am. That's crazy!!! I never get to sleep that long, but I was so thankful! Whew!
