Today is Mother's Day, but I started celebrating early. Yesterday I went horseback riding on the beach. This was something I never would've pictured myself doing or even being interested in, but the ladies group I'm a member of is always going on adventures like kayaking and I just figured it was about time I get out of my comfort zone and try something different!
I know, some people may not see horseback riding as "different", but I have not been on a horse since summer camp when I was a pre teen. At my tender age of thirty, all I could think of when I got sat on top of the horse (who's name is Diamond by the way), is that this tame, well behaved horse is going to choose this day and me to start acting up. In those few minutes of waiting for the other ladies to mount their horses, I just imagined Diamond choosing to bolt away from everyone, start 'neighing' and gallop outside of the beach area, dropping me in the midst of it all. Crazy right?
Well, we were told the rules. How to move left, move right, slow down and stop. We were also told not to be scared because the horses can sense it. So after taking a few deep breaths and seeing how relaxed Diamond was, I decided to relax too.
We took off! It was so beautiful and I loved the attention we received from beach goers who were curious to see the horses by the water. The horses were such professionals they didn't even need much guidance from us, they already knew where they were going. Once one walked, the others followed. The only part that stunk (literally), was when the horses pooped, but hey...when nature calls, you have to answer, lol!
The tour guide was really nice and took pictures for us. This was such a nice experience, my cheap self will definitely do it again and although my booty bones still hurt, it was worth every penny! :)
