A little while ago, I had the opportunity to try a Bestowed Healthy Product Sample Box. I was curious to see what the box would contain and how much my taste buds would appreciate the different samples...there were some hits and definitely some misses!
I was given another chance to try a Bestowed, this time it would be samples of 100% GMO-Free food. I was nervous because I'm not really one to turn down food because it has GMO in it, as a matter of fact, what the heck is GMO? For those of you who are like me and have no idea what the big deal is, read Heather's GMO 101 on the right!
(Assuming you've read the GMO facts, isn't that a bit disturbing? Well, more than just a bit disturbing?)What have I been doing to myself all these years?
This box has actually been a hit in my house. Literally. Everyone liked something. So there were no waste. Here are my thoughts:
UNREAL - Peanut Butter Cups:
They were tolerable. I could definitely taste the difference between this and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups but it was still pretty good. Very creamy.
What's NOT in it? Junk! There is no corn syrup, artificial colors or flavors and no hydrogenated oils.
The Good Bean - Chickpea Snack:
I have always loved chickpeas and don't think there is a way to ruin it for me unless olives are included. I enjoyed this. It's really crunchy so it satisfies my need for chewing something crunchy so I can replace my chips for this. Although the Smoky Chili and Lime was good, I'm eager to try the Sweet Cinnamon and Sea Salt flavor .
What's NOT in it? Artificial ingredients and gluten.
Way Better Snacks - Black Bean Tortilla Chips:
OMG these were delicious! I could not believe they tasted like the regular tortilla chips I buy in the store. I will definitely look for these because I really like chips, they're included in most shopping trips and knowing it's healthy makes me feel good!
What's IN it? These are made of flax, black beans and quinoa, lots of protein and omega 3's. Can you believe it? Sprouted black bean chips!
FiberLove Cinnamon Raisin Bar:
This was not really my cup of tea. I'm not a big fan of raisins unless they're covered in chocolate, lol. My 5 year old LOVED it though!
What's IN it? Could you believe it's filled with 48% of your daily fiber?
Enjoy Life Seed and Fruit Mix:
I didn't think I would enjoy this but I did. Seeds mixed with dried fruits doesn't automatically grab my attention, but I enjoyed the taste of the chocolate bits mixed with dried apples (which were ok), sunflower kernels (which I LOVE!), cranberries (which I grew to appreciate) and more.
What's NOT in it? Gluten Free, Wheat Free, Dairy Free, Peanut Free, Tree Nut Free, Egg Free, Soy Free, Fish Free, Shellfish Free.
Nature's Path Love Crunch Dark Chocolate Macaroon Granola:
This was my favorite! In my opinion it tastes just like a crunchier, dryer Quaker Oats Chocolate Chip granola bar. Yummy! No one in my household could resist it. This is a low sodium, organic snack.
What's IN it? Chocolate, coconut, granola, macaroon. 13 whole grains per serving.
I was eager to try this because my new friend and I have been walking 6 - 7 miles four times a week. We're ready to move onto the walk / jog then the light jogging phase and usually by the time I return home I have a burst of energy. On off days I'm doing weight training now. I tried my husbands drink for after weight training, but having something that works for cardio is great.
How I felt after drinking it? It was sweet and as usual I watered it down to my prefered taste. I didn't feel anything. No boost of energy and no desire to do cartwheels, but maybe that's what's supposed to happen? Maybe the point of this is so I don't feel like I've just walked miles and miles. I'm not sure...
Manitoba Harvest Hemp Pro 70 Plant Based Protein Supplement:
This is a water soluble hemp protein powder. Alone, it does NOT taste good in my opinion, but it can be mixed with a smoothie, non dairy milk or oatmeal.
What's NOT in it? Milk or soy!
What's IN it? 10 Amino Acids.

Disclaimer: The above review is my own honest opinion of this product. I would NEVER recommend a product I did not try, and do not believe in.
Bestowed.com: "GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms. These are plants and animals that have been created by having their DNA modified in a lab. GMO’s have been created for many reasons including longer shelf life, resistance to weed killers and resistance to insects. Although these may sound like benefits, we do not know how these genetic modifications are affecting public health. The changing of DNA may allow for nutrients to be removed from a product that may be important for our health. Many new organizations, including the Non-GMO Project, are on a mission to preserve non-GMO products and increase the awareness through food labeling. Want to be part of the non-GMO bandwagon? Here are some ways to get involved and change the way we eat.
Where is it? Are you ready for this shocker? In the U.S., GMOs are in as much as 80% of conventional processed food. It can be hard to keep on top of what food ingredients are at risk of being a GMO because they are constantly changing. Here are few popular “key ingredients” to look out for that may be have a GMO risk: Amino Acids, Aspartame, Citric Acid, High-Fructose Corn Syrup."
