Start Planning Summer Time Fun - Free or Low Cost Activities
June 2, 2017 by
My oldest graduated from elementary school! (see post)
His graduation made it clear that school is almost over, summer break is near!!! If you haven't already started, plans to take advantage of the many free and low cost summer activities should begin now.
Here are some ideas for your summer break!

Summer camps can be pretty expensive, especially if you're paying for multiple children. If selecting a summer camp, lower cost options are usually camps run by the city park's department or local sheriffs/PAL offices.
Pools, Fountains, Splash Pads or the Beach
Don't have a pool in your backyard? Even if you do, it's always fun when you can include friends or make new ones. Local pools, fountains, splash pads are fun and usually free or under $5 per person. If you live in FL, many are open year round, but who really takes advantage of them during the school year?
Kids Summer Movie Series
Many theaters participate in the free or almost free summer movie series. This is when select movie theaters designate days and times during the week for children to enjoy kid friendly movies they may not have have viewed previously. If they have already seen the movie, chillaxing in an air conditioned theater with other kids, snacks and people with an understanding of 'kids in a movie theater' chatter is still a great way to spend a morning and a fun escape from the heat and humidity.
Like to bowl? Heard of Kids Bowl Free? If not, where have you been? Generous bowling alleys throughout the country are participating in Kids Bowl Free, which allows your children (usually there's an age limit of 15 and under) 2 FREE games of bowling EACH DAY, EVERY DAY during the summer!
If you have older children or want to include parents or grandparents in the deal, you can purchase a family pass for a one-time payment of $29.95 ($22.95 with coupon code). That gives everyone the chance to play at a great rate.
USE CODE "Lucky7" to save $7 off the Family Pass for a limited time!
"The Family Pass allows for 2 GAMES of bowling per day, per adult family member for up to 4 family members all summer long! The Family Pass can only be used while bowling with the Kids Bowl Free registered children."
If you live on the Treasure Coast; St Lucie Lanes, Vero Bowl and Stuart Bowl are all participants! US and Canada residents, visit www.kidsbowlfree.com to find participating bowling allies in your area, and register your children!
Kids Skate Free
Another great way to keep kids physically active during the summer break. Not only can kids bowl free during the summer, they can also skate free! Select a participating skating rink of your choice and register your family. There is a limit of 4 children per registration and some skating rinks require children to be 10 and under, so be sure to check the requirements of your local rink. Passes are emailed weekly.
Passes are generated every Sunday Night at 9PM EST.
If you live on the Treasure Coast; The Skate Factory in Vero Beach is a participant! US and Canada residents, visit www.kidsskatefree.com to find participating bowling allies in your area, and register your children!
Most libraries offer a summer reading program, shows and reading challenges where children can win prizes. For those who think visiting a library is boring, think again! Many of these activities not only exercise your mind, but your body. There's musicians, magicians, science, building workshops, animals and much more.
Also check out your local museums, aquariums. Many offer free admission or discount days.
I really like my Sport-Brella Versa-Brella All Position Umbrella. I've had one for years since my children play sports and I would have to sit in the hot sun watching practices and games. It fits any chair I choose to use. You can even hook it onto a cooler or many other things with poles since it adjusts.
