Swimmable Mermaid Tails from Sun Tails
November 3, 2017 by

I have always wanted mermaid fins. Mainly for the look and photo op, but also because I'd love to try swimming in them and feeling like an actual mermaid. I was going to wait until my abs were presentable, but the opportunity to receive a set came along before my six-pack did, so I'm taking advantage!

Swimmable Mermaid Tails from Sun Tails
Review - 12/1/17

Style - There were so many beautiful colors and patterns to choose from, but I selected the Bali Blush Mermaid Tail and Monofin Set. In case you're wondering what a monofin is, it's the hard fin shaped board that you attach to your feet, inside the tail fabric, that allows you to move in the water like a mermaid (fish). It resembles a fish's caudal fin.

Fit - I currently wear a size 10, soon to be able to squeeze into an 8. I ordered the Sun Tails Swimmable Mermaid Tail in a size "JL - Misses 12 - 16".
It's made of 80% Polyester and 20% Spandex. I tend to look at the threading and hems of items when the material is like leggings. Just to be sure there are no small holes or loose threading, because a small hole can become a large hole quickly. This was sewn together very well.

I took my time putting it on, as if I was putting on pantyhose. Since it requires two legs at a time and it's tight, I wanted to avoid snagging. Although it's not fragile, I didn't want to cause unnecessary destruction to the material. The base is open, so you can walk around with the tail on like a skirt. But, it's sewn at the ends of each side of the tail so the monofin would stay in place. Easy way to take the monofin off or put on, without having to remove the tail.

Once on, it fit me like glove. It felt like a pair of my compression tights, except my thighs are mashed together. It's really comfortable on and I appreciate the tightness of it, because a loose mermaid tail is not ideal. While "testing" it (without the monofin), I walked around with it on to see if it would roll down or ride up, and I had no such issues. It's too cold right now to try it in the water, but the quality of the material and monofin speaks for itself. Feels like a durable set thus far and once it warms up enough for me to try it wet, I will update this review!
