I finally got a Monroe Piercing!
October 15, 2013 by

Some people collect stamps, some "collect" tattoos and I've always had a secret love of piercings. I've had a tongue ring for 14 years, my <cough> pierced but they were removed after a week because I hated the way my shirts looked and I have seven holes in my ears. I always wanted to do more, but I worried about what others would think since I network a lot. But, this morning I woke up with the "what are you waiting for?" feeling in my heart. There's a lot I want to do and I'm going to do them, no matter what I think people will think. I decided I couldn't care less, my work speaks for itself, lol!

On my Facebook, I posted a quick inquiry about what the cost of the Monroe piercing would be. When I heard it was just $20, I got myself together and headed to one of what I realized were many local Tattoo parlors. This one came highly recommended with their over 16,000 Facebook fans.

The longest part of the process was the wait which was only about 10 minutes. Once I was in the piercing room the very sweet piercer told me everything I need to know about the piercing and the care, clamped down on my lip after we chose the spot and 2 minutes later we were done! I was happy to see that it only felt like a pinch and still it doesn't hurt and there was no major  swelling...it's been hours since I've had it done. I didn't want to spend any money on the "special" wash, so if I felt as if it was going to swell (because I would accidentally hit the labret as I washed my face or habitually bite my lip), I would gargle with salt water.

Right now, the stem used to hold the space is too long for my lip since there's no swelling, but I have to wait 4 weeks before they can swap it for a short stem. I can't wait for that time to come, because I have found that the only annoying part of this process is feeling the ring on my gum.
