We went to Gatorland for the umpteenth time!
March 25, 2013 by

Hello, and thanks for reading! I decided today that I will share three facts about myself.
  • I LIKE staying in really nice hotels and can always find a great deal! But, I PREFER sleeping in my own bed!
  • I LIKE Disney and Universal Studios, but I PREFER smaller attractions!
  • I think my attention span is shrinking!

Yesterday was the end of our weekend vacay. My husband finally....wait....freak, I broke a nail!

Anyhoo, where was I? Oh yeah...so my husband finally took a day off from work. It was the perfect time to get away because it's right at the start of Spring break, so I wouldn't feel guilty if I decided not to do anything major the rest of the week while my son is home from school. As I'm looking through the vacation pictures, I felt like I had to show my reader friends some of what we saw. Especially since one question I'm often asked is how the transition from NY to FL has been and if there is any place other than Disney to visit. I love this state!

Since we've lived in Florida, we've been to Disney and Universal Studios countless times, but after an hour we've had enough. It's not that it's no fun, because they're actually great places to visit, it's just not for us. Well, they're "for us"...but not necessary to visit every time we make a trip to Orlando. The beaming sun ruins our mood...someone's always complaining that it's too hot! The fact that I have to wear flats ruins my style (lol, believe it or not, I trip in flats more often than I do in heels). The lines are long and no matter what day of the week or time of the year we visit, there's so many freaking people there. Goshhhhhh, is there ever a down time?

^^^ That's just me! When it comes to my husband, he's so not impressed. My kids think he's excited but I can see the, "I'm only doing this because I love my family" expression on his face. He would much rather be in an air conditioned room watching a game or playing one.

When it comes to our kids, our 6 year old does not like anything that takes him 15+ feet above ground. They also have no interest in characters. I think I've annoyed them so much with my picture taking that every time they see a character, they think I'm going to make them stop for a photo op. In addition, the parks are so damn expensive. Way too much money for me to soak in the sun, to not have a meal I really want, or to not have someone chauffeuring us around the park while fanning me and feeding me grapes and pistachios!

This is why one of my favorite places to visit in Orlando is Gatorland. Lots of shade and just as much sun. Aside from gators, it has other things that keeps us all interested. I'm already giving them free advertising posting this, so I won't show too many photos, but, I had such a pleasant...new experience I have to share! We've seen the white gators, 90+ year old huge, giant, gigantic, humongous and every other word that means extra large tortoise and other animals, but this time, I did something I had never done before! I FED BIRDS (from my hands)!!! A bunch of them flew and landed on my hands and arms. It was so cool to be surrounded by all those beautiful little colorful creatures, that when one dropped blue poopie on my hand I didn't even get upset! I just lived in the moment!

Being FL residents, admission for all 4 of us were under $45. Woohoo, savings! I definitely recommend this place!

Hi Ronda. Love the photos.  We have so many similarities.  I hate amusement parks.  I hate flats, must wear some kind of heel.  Of course, like you, I do stuff like go to amusement parks with the kids. They want to go to Disney World...ugh! But, perhaps Gatorland is an alternative. Thanks for the unintended suggestion on Gatorland.  Sharon at http://makeitorfixit.com.   Thank you so much Sharon! Let them know there's other options, they might opt for it :) I've asked my son if he wanted to go to Disney for his birthday and he prefers a
bounce house and party at home, so that tells me something, lol. I have no idea why Mozilla is blocking my text inputs, but so many people have had that problem.
I've contacted Mozilla support and they dont even know why it happens :(  Your kids want to go to Disney?
